I don’t remember a time when a camera was not in my hands. My grandpa was an avid photographer, who passed down his hobby to his son, my dad. I would consider myself part of this legacy. My dad was always taking pictures of his climbing and backpacking adventures. He had a particular penchant for landscapes, and, particularly, sunsets.
My first camera was a cheap reusable film camera, very standard for the late 90’s. I can’t say I took any great photos at that point, but it did give me a crash course in settings. F stop, exposure, etc. My first point-and-shoot digital camera is where the artistry really picked up. I was fascinated by the novelty of infinite picture capacity. At least, that’s what a 4 gigabyte SD card felt like at the time.
Fast forward to my 20s, and I have upgraded a few times. I currently shoot on Canon DSLR’s and my Leica Q- thanks to a very good deal on Facebook Marketplace.
Like my dad, climbing gave me an arena to hone my skill and style. It is a masterclass in knowing your angles, working with the light you have, planning ahead, and “shooting from the hip”. I have an insane amount of fun capturing my adventures and the adventures of those who are closest to me.
These adventures evolved into the adventures of life. I have been fortunate enough to be the photographer for some of my closest friends’ proposals, engagements, and pregnancy announcements. Even in these shoots, I have been lucky to utilize my background to bring high-quality photos worthy of a frame and a place on a wall.
I hope to continue to work in this gorgeous, wild backdrop we call the great outdoors. If you are interested in creating beautiful keepsakes for your adventures, engagements, or special announcements, please reach out. I offer competitive pricing and open collaboration with all my clients.
